The Happy World Network Vision includes an abundance of opportunities for hard working people to make a good living, derived from the practice of "Benevolent Capitalism" where both employers and consumers consider fair-wages and community support as important components of their purchasing and management decisions. This practice takes into consideration the inescapable economic principle of "what goes around, comes around" where purchasing products from exploitive conglomerates and one-sided trading nations will help to reduce your own standard of living; while purchasing products from local merchants and balanced-trade nations will help to increase your standard of living. In other words: "Predatory Capitalists" revere cheap prices over honorable principles, ultimately at their peril; while "Benevolent Capitalists" revere community well-being over compulsive consumption, ultimately to their benefit. Henry Ford realized this logic nearly one hundred years ago when he began paying his employees almost double the wages offered by other manufacturers, so his employees could afford to buy the cars they produced. This practice helped to usher-in the "roaring twenties" economy that made Ford one of the richest men in the world. Even Adam Smith, the "founding father of capitalism" wrote in his 1776 masterpiece, The Wealth of Nations: "commerce and manufactures can seldom flourish long in any state which does not enjoy a regular administration of justice" (p862) and "man has almost constant occasion for the help of his brethren, and it is in vain for him to expect it from their benevolence only. He will be more likely to prevail if he can interest their self-love in his favour, and show them that it is for their own advantage to do for him what he requires of them" (p14). Happy World Network's ProfitRaising System is specifically designed to facilitate person-to-person referral networking to support local merchants and strengthen local economies, while our FairTradingPost System is designed to help consumers research the origins and community impact of their purchases before making them. These systems hold the promise of transforming the predatory business cultures of yesteryear into the more prudent socioeconomic systems of the future. The Happy World Network Vision includes more freedom to choose a profession that you like, without fear of obstruction or unfair competition. This economic independence is more probable in communities that support "Venture Activism" (the combining of commercialism and altruism) in preference over "Corporate Communism" (the centralized control of economic segments by a political group). In this context, the term "Corporate Communism" refers to the similarities between the formal ideology of the former Soviet Union where a single authoritarian party controlled a centralized economy, and the informal ideology of recent US Economics where corporate conglomerates are merging and acquiring their competitors in an effort to centralize and control entire market segments. Such activity could be attributed to the "natural course of Capitalism" if not for the political aspects of this trend, where the legislative lobbyists who represent these giant corporate interests, who conduct themselves like party delegates (in some cases actually writing the proposed legislation themselves) have succeeded in transitioning US government policy away from its traditional opposition of corporate monopolies before the 1980s; to the apologist support of centralized industrial power that is commonplace in government today (see the "More Equitable Policies" section below). In addition, it appears that these lobbyist/delegates who represent the largest industrial corporations listed in the "Fortune 500" are working together, like a political party, to influence the government's economic and trade policies to their benefit, and against the interests of smaller competitors (some Fortune 500 companies do prefer "Venture Activism" so investigate before you judge). These policies have resulted in the bankruptcy of millions of family-owned farms and small businesses, the decimation of thousands of communities, and the resultant destabilizing of the US economy. This combination of forceful political influence and controlling economic centralization so closely resembles the failed economic policies of Soviet Russia, that it warrants the title "Corporate Communism". The Happy World Network's FairTradingPost System helps consumers to exercise their economic power by researching the origins and community impact of their purchases before making them, and the ReferralMarketplace System helps people to support local merchants and strengthen local economies. These systems hold the promise of transforming the centrally controlled business cultures of yesteryear into the more independent socioeconomic systems of the future. The Happy World Network Vision includes low-stress job environments where people can enjoyably practice their profession without needless anxiety, with enough personal time left over to build strong families and communities, and fully enjoy their lives. But for many people, mass layoffs, pay cuts, seemingly endless workdays and limited vacations are forcing them to cope with an enormous amount of job stress. Feeling unable to keep up with the demands of their jobs, many are reaching burnout levels. "They're holding on to their jobs for dear life" states John Challenger, CEO of the Chicago-based job placement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas. "They're protecting against the risk of losing their jobs and becoming one of the (unemployment) statistics." Ironically, too much multi-tasking leads to distraction and a loss of concentration, according to the American Psychological Association, and an estimated 60 percent of work absences are due to psychological problems. In addition, health costs are almost 50 percent greater for workers who report high levels of stress, according to the Journal of Occupational and Environment Medicine. The Happy World Network offers Mastermind Workshops that teaches people how to increase their job productivity, without sacrificing their personal lives, and without excessive stress, while fostering greater job satisfaction and enjoyment. This training holds the promise of transforming the abusive business cultures of yesteryear into the more prudent socioeconomic systems of the future.
The Happy World Network Vision includes an active and involved electorate that works in dedicated units to oversee government budgets to ensure that taxpayers are getting the maximum benefit at the minimum cost. Numerous government experts and taxpayer advocates insist that both state and federal government operates very inefficiently. Charges of overpricing, swindling, pork-barreling, corporate welfare, needless programs, favoritism, patronage, and wasteful bureaucracy are commonplace. In addition, many people have asserted that government regulations are becoming increasingly complex, with compliance requirements being beyond the ability of most small businesses and citizens, including a tax code that is so voluminous that an individual who was solely dedicated to reading it couldn't complete the task within their lifetime. The Happy World Network believes these issues deserve investigation and the application of any solutions that can deliver more efficient government administration, at less cost, with less complication, to the taxpayers who support our public institutions. The Happy World Network Vision includes an active and involved electorate that works in dedicated units to oversee government programs to ensure that they are effectively manifesting the social benefits they were originally established to deliver. Numerous government experts and policy advocates insist that many state and federal government programs fail to deliver the expected end-results; most notably in the welfare programs and criminal corrections systems that have classically failed to reduce poverty or correct criminal behavior, despite their exorbitantly high cost. Many people have asserted that government programs typically are more reactionary than proactive, dedicating their efforts more toward frantically "putting out current fires" than to any comprehensive course of action that could yield long-term results. Similar arguments have also been made regarding economic programs, education systems, national security policies, and other very important government programs. The Happy World Network believes these issues deserve investigation and the application of any solutions that can deliver more effective government programs, with more impressive results, to the taxpayers who support our public institutions. The Happy World Network Vision includes an active and involved electorate that works in dedicated units to oversee government policies to ensure that they serve the common good of all citizens. Numerous government experts and policy advocates insist that many politicians depend on campaign contributions from moneyed interests to fund their election campaigns, and the acceptance of that money beholds them to serve the special interests of these large contributors, which commonly results in public policies that serve these private interests at the expense of the general public. Most elected representatives will deny these allegations, yet when their legislative voting records are compared with their campaign contributor's requests, an associated pattern is usually evident. The Happy World Network believes these issues deserve investigation and the application of any solutions that can deliver more equitable government policies, which serve the common good of ALL the taxpayers who support our public institutions.
The Happy World Network Vision includes a more innovative society that is fueled by the imagination, inspiration and inventiveness of creative thinkers, who are free to express their theories, ideas, and passions, in order to improve the world around them. As Richard Gurin of the National Alliance of Business put it: "Ideas are what built American business, and it is the arts that build ideas and nurture a place in the mind for them to grow. Arts education programs can help repair weaknesses in American education and better prepare workers for the twenty-first century." This assertion is supported by Lori Reisenbichler of the University of North Texas Center for the Study of Work Teams, who states; "It is a powerful thing to understand that one can create. It is not something that only a lucky few are born with the ability to do. It is an orientation to life that can be learned. The rise in interest in creativity training in organizations has paralleled the rise in complexity in the global marketplace. Organizations are facing problems they never anticipated and therefore have no prior experience at solving. Creative solutions are becoming necessary to a business for its very survival. Creative individuals tend to keep their eyes and ears open to more things than most individuals would at any given time." However, creativity can easily be thwarted by an inhospitable environment, as emphasized by Charlie Kiefer, founder of Innovation Associates; "Unfortunately, organizational life enables us to easily collude with both ourselves and others in not looking at the truth. We develop certain unspoken rules which everyone observes, and norms which make it virtually impossible to talk about the truth. In most business organizations, for example, political realities, personal comfort and bad habits are all senior to the truth." The Happy World Network provides an abundant variety of artistic expressions and challenging topics that spark the creative capabilities within every Member, thus establishing an environment where truth, meaning and improvement can be comfortably pursued. By facilitating this creative process The Happy World Network is helping to increase the beauty, diversity, innovation and joy within our society, so we can serve as a positive example of public success to a world that longs to be happy. The Happy World Network Vision includes more artistic diversity and choices, to bestow upon people the sense of discovery and wonderment that connects them with their own emotional depth and creative potential. Once again, such ongoing personal advancement is more likely to occur in a "Venture Activist" culture that fosters a broad selection of stimulating artistic expressions; and far less likely to occur with the limited cultural offerings resulting from "Corporate Communism." Consider the fact that huge media conglomerates such as Time-Warner, Viacom, and Clear Channel are merging and acquiring their competitors in an effort to centralize and control large media markets. The ten largest media corporations now control over 54% of the commercial TV, Radio, newspaper and magazine supply, with the subsequent 35 Media Giants controlling most of the remainder. The cultural problem with this media centralization is found in the "Vertical Integration" of both media production and distribution resources within one giant cartel, with their directors opting to "push" the artists produced by their affiliated subsidiaries onto their captive audiences, leaving very little airtime, page space, or shelf space left for independently produced "up-and-coming" talent. Furthermore, since it is more profitable to feed familiar forms of entertainment to the conformist masses, the vast majority of "art" presented by these media cartels tend to represent lessons in banality that desperately lack the experimental free expression needed to fuel meaningful cultural growth. The ReferralMarketplace services enhance our culture by introducing people to an abundant variety of artistic expressions, and providing Members with an interactive "grass-roots" method for promoting talented local artists to international success, thus offering an alternative to the "play it safe" corporate selection methods that tend to hinder cultural progress. The Happy World Network Vision includes more enlightened people who appreciate beauty and creativity, and value the free expression of ideas that promote more fulfilling lifestyles for everyone. During the 18th and 19th centuries, known as "The Age of Enlightenment" virtually every church and public building was constructed as testament to the community's refinement, and even the houses and brownstone apartments of that era reflect its people's appreciation of beauty and artisanship. But the 20th century ushered in a more utilitarian view of life, with more emphasis on conformity and the efficiency of mass-production, as evidenced by the tract housing, tenement buildings, and strip malls that serve as a blight upon every community they accurse. People who appreciate art and innovation tend to live among more blissful surroundings, with beautiful architecture and landscapes that make them feel worthy, special, and proud. Many people in today's society experience feelings of disappointment, unhappiness, and even depression, despite having access to supportive family, friends, money, and an abundance of possessions. Often what is missing are the sensations of discovery, insight and acknowledgment that make life meaningful and worth-while. People who appreciate art and innovation live more rewarding personal lives, filled with stimulating parties, events, and conversations that help them to connect with their full intellectual, emotional and spiritual potential. The Happy World Network introduces people to an abundant variety of artistic expressions, challenging topics, fun events, and new friends, with which they can enrich their lifestyle with more beauty, discovery, creativity, and joy.
